In the Driver’s Seat, an organization founded by Cindy Lill and Joyce Steel, who are both parents of adult children with disabilities, will hold a conference titled “The Roadmap to Self-Direction: Exploring Your Options, Creating Opportunities,” Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center, 1200 Edgewood Ave.
The event has been designed to help participants with disabilities learn to achieve independence by using self-direction, and the cost will be $10, according to the group’s website.
“Self Direction empowers people with disabilities, and their families to design and manage services based on their individual needs and goals,” the group stated.
In the Driver’s Seat’s website also provides an overview of self-directed service options, the top ten websites for individuals seeking self-directed services, and a registry of families and individuals who are members of the group, as well as additional resources for individuals with disabilities.
