The shooter, who police have identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, fired hundreds of bullets non-stop into a crowd at country music’s Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Paddock fired the bullets from the 32nd floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino hotel, then killed himself, authorities said.
“Police found 10 rifles inside Paddock’s hotel room,” Sheriff Joseph Lombardo stated. “We believe the individual killed himself prior to our entry.”
According to police, they believe Paddock acted alone, and, so far, they’ve found no link between Paddock and any international terrorist organizations.
“Right now, we believe it’s a sole actor, a lone-wolf-type actor,” Lombardo said.
The suspect’s brother, Eric Paddock has described his brother as a “wealthy,” retired accountant.
Eric Paddock said he was shocked to learn his brother had been responsible for the shooting.
“We’re still just completely befuddled. Dumbstruck,” he stated.
Police had also been seeking Paddock’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, as a “person of interest,” following the shooting; however, Danley has reportedly been visiting family out of the country, and authorities have said they no longer believe she was involved in the incident.
Las Vegas authorities are asking Nevadans to donate blood for the victims in need, and Facebook has also set up a crisis response page to help people to determine whether their loved ones are safe.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit the area Wednesday.
