Schimek, 28, has reportedly been accused of having sex with the student at his Rowley St. home several times over the past few months. Police said he’s been charged with committing two felonies, third-degree rape and a third-degree criminal sex act.
According to reports, Schimek met the student while working in a former position as an assistant track coach at RCSD’s School of the Arts.
He had been working as a substitute teacher at Edison Technical Occupational High School at the time of his arrest.
“We have no evidence that the inappropriate activity occurred on school property,” RCSD said in a letter sent home to parents. “Upon being informed yesterday that Mr. Schimek was under investigation, the district immediately took steps to make sure that he would not be allowed to teach, or have contact with students in any city school.”
Schimek has reportedly pleaded not guilty to the charges, and has been released after paying $15,000 bail. He is scheduled to attend a preliminary hearing in city court, Sept. 28.
Police have asked anyone with information regarding the case to call (585) 428-9800, or 911.
