The Eastman School of Music and the Rochester City School District have partnered to provide transportation and free tickets 400 city students to attend one of the last few concerts of the season, including the “Underground Railroad: A Spiritual Journey,” beginning Jan. 30.
Eastman has partnered with Rochester Area Community Foundation, AVANGRID/RG&E, and the Rochester Education Foundation, in addition to RCSD, in order to make the offer possible.
The school has also received $20,000 in donations to fund the effort.
According to officials, the experience will be an extension of music education in school for students, and eligible students will be chosen by their teachers to attend one of the last three concerts of the 2015-2016 season.
“It’s about expanding their musical horizons, and getting them to as many community events as possible,” Liz Hanan, RCSD’s director of arts, reportedly stated.
Students will also have the opportunity to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and The Eastman Wind Ensemble, featuring Fleck, as part of Eastman’s available free programs.
