blValeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc., parent company of Bausch + Lomb Inc., has received a $973,000 grant from Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. (RG&E) to support electric infrastructure improvements at its facility at 1400 N. Goodman St., officials stated.

The award will help fund $200 million in renovations and new construction for its Bausch + Lomb ULTRA lens manufacturing lines, the company’s latest silicon hydrogel contact lens technology.

RG&E’s grant assistance was part of a comprehensive economic development incentive package, developed through a collaborative effort with government partners at the local, regional and state level.

According to officials, Bausch + Lomb’s Rochester expansion project will create more than 100 new jobs, and help retain more than 800 jobs.

“This gift will make a tremendous impact on our ability to expand the Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lens manufacturing lines,” said Joseph Hart, executive director of site operations at Bausch + Lomb. “Bausch + Lomb’s manufacturing operations in Rochester are committed to driving innovation, and helping to bring those advancements to market.”

B+L is currently manufacturing Bausch + Lomb ULTRA contact lenses on its initial pilot line, which the company launched in early February 2014.

In addition, Bausch + Lomb implemented its first full commercial line in May.

The company also said it expects to implement a second manufacturing line by the second half of 2015, followed by lines three and four in 2016.

“RG&E and our parent company, Iberdrola USA, have long histories of supporting the communities where we live, work and serve,” said Mark Lynch, president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E. “We’re proud to be part of this effort with Bausch + Lomb, and our other economic development partners to help create and retain jobs in Upstate New York.”
