The expansion includes a new dance studio, as well as an expanded gym, weight room, and teen area.
Construction was possible due to a $2 million donation from the late Kathy Holt, one of the organization’s former board members.
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren, Rep. Louise Slaughter, Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, and New York state Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Morelle attended the event.
“The community rallied together around them, and we were able to overcome, and I think that’s the message of Rochester,” Mayor Warren told News10NBC.
The expansion cost a total of $3.3 million, and has been slated to mark a turning point for the organization, which was the location of a mass shooting last summer, leaving three dead and four injured, following the incident.
