Monroe County Court Judge Douglas Randall has moved Charles Pierre’s new trial date to Aug. 3, from Aug. 10. Randall recently overturned Pierre’s 2003 conviction for double murder and arson, after Pierre spent 12 years in prison for the crimes.
The trial has been moved due to a witness for the prosecution who will be unavailable for the original date of the trial.
The new trial means Pierre will get the chance to introduce new evidence in the case, after another prisoner named Darrell Boyd allegedly confessed his involvement in the 2002 murders of two city residents to another inmate, as well as his wife.
Boyd is currently in prison for a 2007 murder.
Pierre won a second chance at a new trial after the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office lost an appeal to Randall’s decision in early June.
He is currently being held at the Monroe County Jail, where he will remain until trial.
