The city has issued a five-day suspension without pay for Steve Cusenz, Deputy Director of Emergency Communications, for posting inappropriate comments about race on Facebook, according to a city press release.
Following an internal investigation into the allegations regarding Cusenz’s remarks, officials said the Emergency Communications Department determined he did in fact make the posts.
And, although Cusenz made the posts on his personal account outside of work hours, the department determined he would be held accountable for actions at a higher level than other “rank and file” employees, according to the city’s communications director, James Smith.
In addition, Smith said Cusenz will be required to take diversity and inclusion training prior to returning to work at the 9-1-1 Call Center.
Cusenz has worked as deputy director at the center for the last four years, according to officials.
