clinton (1)Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump and Democratic Candidate Hillary Clinton were the clear winners of New York state’s primary April 19, following the closure of the polls.

According to the Associated Press, Trump led his opponents, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, with 60 percent of the vote, compared to Kasich’s 25 percent and Cruz’s 15 percent respectively.

Clinton also beat out her opponent (albeit by a less-wide margin), U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, D-Vermont, with 58 percent of the vote, compared to Sanders’ 42 percent of the vote.

“There’s no place like home,” Clinton, a former New York state senator, told supporters that evening at a victory rally.

The candidates had been stumping all over the state during the past few weeks, prior to Tuesday’s primary, in order to pull ahead of their opposing candidates.
