“Fourth of July weekend provides a wonderful opportunity for all of us to come together in celebration of our nation’s independence,” Dinolfo stated. “While we spend time with our friends and families this weekend, let us not forget to do so safely and responsibly.”
Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown efforts will begin July 1, and end July 5.
According to the county, the Fourth of July weekend has historically had a high rate of impaired drivers and, therefore, the New York State Police, county sheriffs, and municipal law enforcement agencies will collaborate across the state in this effort.
“Law enforcement will be out in full force to reduce the number of alcohol related injuries, and fatalities, during this period,” county officials said.
Other holidays the “Statewide STOP-DWI Crackdown Campaign” will target include Labor Day weekend, Halloween, and the national holiday season in December.
The county has encouraged community members to download the “Have a Plan” mobile phone app to receive additional information regarding responsible driving, or to locate and call a taxi service in the area.
