The student attendance rate is “completely unacceptable,” RCSD Superintendent Bolgen Vargas stated.
Vargas said the student attendance rate, district-wide, was 76.6 percent Wednesday, which increased to 78.8 percent Thursday.
According to the superintendent, the attendance rate for the first two days of school this year fell from 83.6 percent, and 86.6 percent, in 2014, respectively.
“Our district has invested heavily in more instructional time, more engagement activities, and more social-emotional support. But none of this will help our students unless they attend school,” Vargas stated.
The district also attributed this year’s lower attendance rates to the fact that school started just before the Labor Day holiday.
