Councilmember Kim Smith (At-Large) is holding the final public input session regarding the state of housing with a specific focus on the Housing Quality Taskforce Recommendations. The session will be Thursday, August 18, at the Arnett Branch Community Library (310 Arnett Boulevard) from 5:00PM to 6:30PM.

The Housing Quality Taskforce delivered its report to Mayor Evans on June 23, including 16 recommendations across five topics: code enforcement; facilitating responsible ownership through the City’s Land Bank, foreclosures, and a building registry; repair and improvement programs; increasing the supply of quality housing; and improving communication and education. The report can be read online here: https://www.cityofrochester.gov/HQTF/

“The showing at our first three sessions has exceeded my expectations and the feedback we have received is invaluable. Thank you to everyone who has shared their thoughts – whether that be through the survey, in-person, by email or phone,” said Councilmember Smith. “Much of the feedback we have received relates to implementation and consistent follow-up. I will be working with my colleagues to explore holding future housing sessions throughout the City as the Taskforce’s Recommendations are implemented.”

Councilmember Smith will facilitate the session, providing an overview of the report, and guiding a conversation to gather the community’s input. The feedback from all four sessions will be consolidated into a report in the near future, which will be formally presented to the entire City Council, the Housing Quality Taskforce, the Evans Administration, County officials, and members of Rochester’s Federal, State, and Local delegations. The report will also be shared with the public.

Refreshments will be served. Anyone unable to attend in person can also provide feedback by filling out this survey.
