Foodlink, in partnership with MVP Health Care and the national nonprofit, Share Our Strength, will host an interactive grocery store tour for low-income shoppers, through its “Cooking Matters at the Store” program, Friday.
The tour, organized by nutrition educators at Foodlink, will take place at the Price Rite, at 375 Driving Park Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., July 22.
According to officials, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the key food groups, and gain tips on reading Nutrition Facts labels, finding whole grains, and comparing unit prices.
Shoppers will also have the chance to sign up for a free, guided tour, which will last approximately 30 minutes, and stop at four learning stations, labeled as Fruits & Vegetables, Protein, Dairy and Grains.
Each station will have a sample recipe for shoppers to try, and, after the event, shoppers will be awarded $5 in healthy groceries, a recipe book, and a reusable bag.
More than 120 local residents participated in Foodlink’s last Cooking Matters event in March, which was also held at Price Rite.
