The print industry is one of the largest in the world. In fact — believe it or not — it’s eight times larger than the video game industry. But that doesn’t mean it’s doing nearly as well as it used to, as attested by the massive layoffs by Gannett Co. Inc, the parent company of the Democrat & Chronicle, D&C Digital, USA TODAY, and many more publications around the country.
It is uncertain exactly how many positions will be eliminated across the company’s U.S. Community Publishing division. So far, eight full-time Democrat &Chronicle employees were laid off, a group that represented 2.4% of the local Gannett workforce.
