Fox led the Open Door mission for 25 years, as Ken Fox, before she resigned in 2001, and chose to live her life as a transgender woman.
Following her departure, Fox’s son, Ron Fox, took over as head of the mission, before also stepping down in 2011.
Michael Hennessy, the Open Door Mission’s current executive director released the following statement Monday:
“We regret to hear of the passing of a long time leader of the Open Door Mission. During his tenure here, Ken Fox helped thousands of Rochester’s most impoverished citizens find food, clothing, shelter, and compassionate care. We lift up his entire family, in prayer, for peace and comfort, during this difficult time.”
Fox’s funeral arrangements have not yet been made public.
