Latinos Unidos will hold a rally titled “Latinos Unidos Con Black Lives Matter” Thursday, in front of the Public Safety Building in downtown Rochester, in a show of support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
The rally will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 185 Exchange Blvd.
“The purpose of the rally is the coming together of Hispanics and the Black Lives Matter movement,” rally organizer Ana Casserly stated. “In this country, at this moment, there is a lot of discrimination against Hispanics that is similar to what blacks go through.”
According to Casserly, the group’s goal is to create a unified voice between the two communities, which have continued to face similar challenges when dealing with issues of police brutality.
“We would like to come together and have a voice,” she stated. “We are parents and mothers who have children and kids who are in jail or have been killed by policemen, but because we are Hispanic we don’t have a voice.”
