Local director David Shakes will present Project Baldwin, a theater performance featuring the works of famous author James Baldwin, from Jan. 20 through Jan. 24, at the Multi Use Community Cultural Center, 142 Atlantic Ave.
“James Baldwin was an important African American prolific writer of novels, poetry, short stories, plays and essays, as well as a civil rights activist,” the center’s web site stated. “This event is an exploration of his work.”
The shows, sponsored in part by SUNY Empire State College, have been scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. each evening, with a community scholar discussion following each performance.
In addition, the shows have been scheduled to end with a discussion session, and reflections with the cast, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m. in the center.
According to the web site, Tuesdays and Wednesdays the cost of the performances will be $5; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday they will be $15 for the general public, $10 for students.
