Mayor Warren Hosts First Annual “Distinguished Gentlemen” Event for Youth

By Staff

warren youthMayor Lovely Warren has recently hosted the first annual “Distinguished Gentlemen: The Mayor’s Appointment, Inspiring Success in Young Men” event at the Blue Cross Arena, and connected 200 young men with male role models throughout the community.

“Tonight was my way to introduce the young men in the community to some of our community’s most accomplished gentlemen,” Mayor Warren stated. “It is my hope that by helping our young people build connections, and find role models, we can inspire them to be successful in life.”

One of the criteria the young men who were selected to attend the program faced was to write an essay relative to what being a “Distinguished Gentleman” meant to them, similar to an event for young women the mayor held in February.

During the event, the city featured a video by Quentin Gause, an athlete who was recently drafted to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The young men were also introduced to role models such as Rochester City Councilmember Adam McFadden; Monroe County Legislators Willie Joe Lightfoot and Ernest Flagler-Mitchell; Rochester City Court Judge Stephen Miller; Adam Chodak of WROC-TV; Toby Motyka of 13 WHAM-TV; Tyrone Reaves, president and founder of Truform Manufacturing; and former NFL player Roland Williams.

City Council President Loretta Scott also attended the event.

In addition, local fraternities, including the Alpha Phi Alphas, the Phi Beta Sigmas, and the Omega Psi Phis, hosted tables providing the young men with information about etiquette and “dressing to impress.”

scholars2“I promise that you live in a city that believes in you wholeheartedly,” Warren stated to the young men. “You can accomplish and achieve your dreams, whatever they may be. Let no one, or nothing, stand in your way.”

The city hosted the event in partnership with local radio station 103.9 WDKX.
