mctpThe Metro Council for Teen Potential will host a “Celebration of Youth Achievements” Tuesday, Oct. 18,  at 4 p.m. in Asbury Methodist Church’s gathering room, at 1050 East Ave.

The Metro Council will recognize three Rochester high school students, Atim Okung (World of Inquiry School), Yamila Torres (East HS) and Kianna Scott (Edison Tech), with its MCTP Break Through Award, for overcoming significant challenges to achieve positive goals, the group said.

The council will also recognize two “Friends of Youth,” Rickey Tolbert, executive chef for the Rochester City School District; and the project Play ROCS, a campaign to promote more accessible places for youth to play in Rochester.

Jennifer Gkourlias, the principal of School No. 12, will be keynote speaker for the event.

In addition, the program will close with the premier of a new film, produced and directed by Summer of Opportunity youth, in partnership with Rochester Community TV.

The Metro Council for Teen Potential is a coalition of city-based youth serving organizations that work together to promote youth health and youth development.  The organization’s key strategies include youth leadership, comprehensive sexuality education, parent involvement, and social marketing to promote healthy choices.
