The initiative, sponsored by the Monroe County Office for the Aging and Medical Motors, will once again collect and distribute donated winter coats to seniors in need throughout the county.
“Since its kick-off fourteen years ago, the “Coats for Seniors” program has become a great success in providing much needed coats for our community’s seniors,” Dinolfo stated. “Monroe County is known for its generous giving, and helping others in our community. This kindness can be seen throughout the year, and continues during the holiday season. “It’s incredibly heartwarming to know that our community continues to give back and carry on this worthy tradition of helping our fellow neighbors.”
Donations of new and gently-used, adult-sized coats will be accepted weekdays between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., at participating senior centers.
Donation boxes will also be set up in the atrium of the Monroe County Office Building, at 39 W. Main St.; the Monroe County Office for the Aging at Monroe Community Hospital, at 435 E. Henrietta Rd.; Monroe County DMV locations, Greece Ridge Mall at 152 Greece Ridge Center Dr., 2199 E. Henrietta Rd, and 545 Titus Ave.; Colony Dry Cleaners, at 695 Howard Rd. in Gates; and Dry Clean Express, 3159 South Winton Rd., 1158 Fairport R.d, 557 West Whitney Rd., 7374 Pittsford-Palmyra Rd., and 2200 Penfield Rd.
The program will run from Oct. 13 to Dec. 29.
“Coats for Seniors” has collected over 6,000 coats for seniors, overall, and, according to officials, any additional coats that have not been selected by a senior will be donated to local shelters and clothing closets, at the end of the program.
