Ramos will be replacing retiring superintendent Thomas Perillo in the role.
“We are pleased Dr. Ramos has accepted our offer to lead our district,” GASD Board of Education President Rev. Kent McHeard said in a statement on the school district’s website. “As a candidate for the position, she was introduced to our community during public forums this February, where her depth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for education and student learning were clearly demonstrated.”
Ramos began her career as an RCSD Spanish teacher in 1989, and has served as an educator and administrator in the district for the past 26 years. She currently serves as the appointed “turnaround principal” for Monroe High School, which is currently under receivership.
“In addition to her impressive accomplishments throughout her career in education, Dr. Ramos possesses the qualifications and abilities necessary to continue moving Amsterdam in a positive direction,” Perillo stated.
Perillo will step down from the role June 30.
