Irondequoit, NY – Patrina Freeman, longtime community volunteer and mother of three, announced her candidacy for a seat on the East Irondequoit School Board Thursday. She is the first non-incumbent candidate to announce publicly her intention to run for one of the school board seats up for election in May.
“As a mom of both adult and school-age children, I fully understand the importance of providing children with a high quality education that prepares them to thrive, not simply survive in the global job market,” Freeman said in a press release to the media. “I am keenly aware of the challenges we face in accomplishing this task in the current economic environment. I am running for school board with a deep commitment to maximize student achievement while pledging sound fiscal responsibility to the community.”
According to the release, Freeman is a former Executive Director and has been a passionate community participant and parent volunteer in East Irondequoit over the past 10 years. She has degrees from Hudson Valley Community College and Houghton College, and earned a Masters of Divinity from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School.
Freeman, 46, lives with her husband, Jeffrey, and their two youngest children, ages 11 and 17. The election for the East Irondequoit School Board will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Eastridge High School, from 6:00 am – 9:00 pm.
