MJS Productions has announced well-known political activist and author Angela Davis will be the keynote speaker during an event titled “An Evening of Empowerment,” at East High School, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m.
The cost of the event is $25.
Davis is best known for promoting women’s rights and racial justice in the 1960s and 70s, and, according to a press release, is expected to “empower, propel, and uplift her audience.”
“Through her activism and scholarship over many decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world,” MSJ stated. “Her work as an educator, both at the university level, and in the larger public sphere, has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial, and gender justice. This is an event that will engage the entire family, and community.”
The organization will also honor five local leaders, including Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden, Zaire Downs, Camille McIntyre, Gaynelle Wethers, and Hanif Abdul-Wahid, with the MJS Productions Community Empowerment Award, during the event.
