In addition, RCSD may also be negotiating a deal with RTS to bus students in the 2015-16 school year.
According to a letter from Superintendent Bolgen Vargas to RTS CEO Bill Carpenter, the district will seek an additional $350,000 in staid aid to cover the cost of busing the students to school in the summer.
Vargas also said the number of buses required to transport students in the upcoming school year, based on newly-tiered bell times, would be reduced from 120 to 71.
“I also look forward to receiving your response by Friday as to the viability and cost for RTS to provide service during the 2015-2-16 school year, based on our newly tiered bell times,” Vargas stated. “We appreciate the opportunity to continue to partner for the children and families we serve.”
RCSD and RTS released the letter during a joint press conference Thursday afternoon.
