The Rochester Educational Opportunity Center on Chestnut Street will become a state vaccination site as of Aug. 16.
The state is ending vaccinations at the Dome Arena in Henrietta and moving those operations to the city.
The last day at the Dome is Aug. 15. For individuals who received their first dose at the Dome, information about the appointment for a second dose will be texted and emailed to the contact information on file.
The move is part of the state’s plan to put vaccination sites in areas of highest need and make it convenient for people who have yet to be vaccinated.
REOC, at 161 Chestnut St., is in the 14604 ZIP code. According to state data, the rate of at least one dose of vaccine is 84.7%. However, the downtown location is just blocks from the transit center and provides easier access for people living in ZIP codes with low rates. For instance, ZIP codes such as 14614, 14605 and 14608 each have a vaccination rate less than 40%.
The change in venue is also part of a shift to right-size the sites, meaning the state wants to fit the site to the demand.
Residents can track distribution of vaccine by checking the COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker Dashboard at covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/covid-19-vaccine-tracker, which has vaccination data by ZIP code. The New York State Department of Health requires vaccinating facilities to report all COVID-19 vaccine administration data within 24 hours and the vaccine administration data on the dashboard is updated daily to reflect the most up-to-date metrics in the state’s vaccination effort.
New Yorkers who suspect fraud in the vaccine distribution process can now call 833-VAX-SCAM (833-829-7226) toll-free or email the state Department of Health at STOPVAXFRAUD@health.ny.gov. Hotline staff will route complaints to the appropriate investigative agency.
