Alexander Rideout, 19, and Colin Rideout, 22, were charged earlier this week in connection to the death of their father, Craig Rideout. On Monday, July 25, the two sons were released from Monroe County Jail after making bail.
Along with Alex and Colin, their mother and estranged wife of the victim, Laura Rideout, was also arrested over the weekend.
No one has been charged in the murder of Craig Rideout, but Laura and their two sons were charged with tampering with a murder scene.
On Friday, July 22, the Monroe County sheriff and Yates County sheriff confirmed that Craig Rideout’s body was the body found in the Town of Jerusalem in a wooded area.
WHEC reports that Alex and Colin helped clean up blood and other physical evidence at the murder scene, using cleaning solvents, leather work gloves — cowhide leather being the thickest option of which with varieties ranging from one-ounce to 12-ounces — and acid-based drain cleaner.
The two boys then took a bag of items including disinfectant wipes, gloves and multiple bottles of acid cleaners to Mendon Ponds. They were accused of throwing the items into the water in an attempt to hide the contents from police.
Both Alex and Colin are currently unemployed and are living with their mother. They, along with Laura, were all charged with tampering with physical evidence.
When Craig Rideout’s body was discovered in Yates County on July 20, law enforcement could not yet confirm it was him, until two days later. The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was from asphyxiation from strangulation and blunt force trauma to the head.
Despite the arrests, the police have not officially charged anyone with the murder yet, but they have stated that they are close.
“If anyone has any information,” said Craig’s sister Robbyn Drew, “please reach out to the police so that this crime does not go unpunished.”
