In the Community: A Rochester City School District
Members of the Rochester City School District (RCSD)’s Roc Restorative Team will be training students from Dr. Walter Cooper Academy School No. 10, John Walton Spencer School No. 16, Abelard Reynolds School No. 42, The Flower City School No. 54 and RISE Community School No. 106 for its Circle Champions Initiative.
This will be an opportunity for approximately 80 to 100, 3rd – 6th grade RCSD students to be leaders in their school buildings and promote student voice in their community.
In order to participate in this initiative, 15 to 20 students from each school completed an application to be selected as a “Circle Champion”.
The Roc Restorative Circle Champions Student Training takes place on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Northridge Community Church, 2052 St. Paul Street, Rochester, NY 14621.
This is for scholars who want to learn about facilitating team-building circles in their own schools and help resolve conflicts amongst peers using restorative practices.
In some instances, these “champions” involve students who have been involved in conflicts themselves, and they now want to act as peer mentors at school to help classmates resolve common issues that arise between one another.
