Rochester City School District to Receive $11.9 Million for Pre-K Expansion

By Staff

prekGov. Andrew Cuomo has announced $30 million will be awarded to 34 high-need school districts, in order to increase access to high-quality pre-kindergarten for students in communities across the state.

Rochester City School District will receive $11.9 million, that largest amount of the funds.

“Access to a quality education from a young age can unlock a student’s potential and put them on a path to success years into the future,” Gov. Cuomo stated. “That’s what this funding is all about – it’s an investment in the future of thousands of children across the state, and I am proud that we are able to help those students begin learning early on.”

According to Cuomo’s office, the awards have been made to districts based on the quality of the application, and factors including district and student need, efforts to target the highest-need students, and efforts to maximize the total number of children served in pre-kindergarten programs.

The funding will support the expansion of pre-k for a total of 3,295 three- and four-year old students in the state.
