Rochester Police to Hold “Females in Law Enforcement,” “FILE for a Day,” Initiative

16-RPD-FILE---carouselThe Rochester Police Department will hold a “Females in Law Enforcement,” or “FILE for a Day” initiative, Saturday, Sept. 23, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., in its Public Safety Training Facility, at 1190 Scottsville Rd.

The RPD has developed the free information session to encourage women to apply to become officers, in correspondence with the city’s upcoming Civil Service Exam, Nov. 19.

Female representatives from the RPD will host the event, and provide an overview of various aspects of the job, including the hiring and background check process; entering the police academy; and different opportunities within the department.

Officers, investigators, and supervisors working in patrol and the Backgrounds and Recruitment Unit will also participate by leading participants in interactive activities, which will include representatives from specialized RPD units such as Major Crimes, K-9, Mounted Patrol, and Training.

The event’s full schedule is as follows:

  • Recruitment, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.;
  • Backgrounds, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.;
  • Police Academy and Patrol, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.;
  • Scuba, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.;
  • Lunch, 12 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.;
  • Mounted Patrol and K-9, 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.;
  • Major Crimes, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.;
  • Technicians, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.;
  • and Firearms, 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

FILE  is open to women between the ages of 19 to 34 who hold a high school diploma, or equivalent certificate; a valid NYS driver’s license; and U.S. citizenship.
