Officials said the assistance will cover the cost of roof replacement, and other related repairs such as gutters, downspouts, roof flashing, and minor chimney repair up to $12,000.
Interested homeowners may submit pre-applications at their nearest Neighborhood Service Centers beginning Feb. 18.
In addition, according to officials, the $1.8 million in funding for the program will be split into two parts.
The first round of funds will be quadrant-based, with a total of 75 randomly-selected, pre-applicants from City Neighborhood Service Centers.
Senior citizens will make up 30 percent of those selected.
In addition, officials said the pre-application period for the first installment will run from Feb. 18 to March 17, culminating with a drawing on March 18.
Then, the second installment will be city-based, in which names will be selected from a city-wide pool of applicants.
The open application period for the second round will run from May 19 to June 18, with a drawing on June 19, at a location the city has not yet determined, officials said.
Applicants must own a single-family residential structure which they live in; be at least 18 years of age; and a U.S citizen, in order to be eligible for the assistance.
In addition, officials said participants will be required to live at the property for a period of three years after the project’s completion.
Here are additional requirements applicants must meet in order to be eligible for the funds:
- Applicants’ household income must not exceed 50 percent of the area median income.
- Applicants must not have received financial assistance through a city housing rehabilitation program in the past seven years.
- Applicants’ city property taxes must be up to date, or the homeowner must be current with payments under a city tax agreement.
- Participants whose household incomes do not exceed more than 30 percent of the median income limit must pay a $50 financial contribution toward the project; participants whose incomes do not exceed more than 50 percent of the income limit must pay $250 toward the project.
