Rochester to provide Roof Replacement for 150 City Homes

roof 1The city of Rochester has announced it will provide financial assistance for the roof replacement of 150 owner-occupied, single-family homes in the city.

Officials said the assistance will cover the cost of roof replacement, and other related repairs such as gutters, downspouts, roof flashing, and minor chimney repair up to $12,000.

Interested homeowners may submit pre-applications at their nearest Neighborhood Service Centers beginning Feb. 18.

In addition, according to officials, the $1.8 million in funding for the program will be split into two parts.

The first round of funds will be quadrant-based, with a total of 75 randomly-selected, pre-applicants from City Neighborhood Service Centers.

Senior citizens will make up 30 percent of those selected.

In addition, officials said the pre-application period for the first installment will run from Feb. 18 to March 17, culminating with a drawing on March 18.

Then, the second installment will be city-based, in which names will be selected from a city-wide pool of applicants.

The open application period for the second round will run from May 19 to June 18, with a drawing on June 19, at a location the city has not yet determined, officials said.

Applicants must own a single-family residential structure which they live in; be at least 18 years of age; and a U.S citizen, in order to be eligible for the assistance.

In addition, officials said participants will be required to live at the property for a period of three years after the project’s completion.

Here are additional requirements applicants must meet in order to be eligible for the funds:

  • Applicants’ household income must not exceed 50 percent of the area median income.
  • Applicants must not have received financial assistance through a city housing rehabilitation program in the past seven years.
  • Applicants’ city property taxes must be up to date, or the homeowner must be current with payments under a city tax agreement.
  • Participants whose household incomes do not exceed more than 30 percent of the median income limit must pay a $50 financial contribution toward the project; participants whose incomes do not exceed more than 50 percent of the income limit must pay $250 toward the project.
