Rochester City School District Superintendent Bolgen Vargas has announced three members of his cabinet will also leave the district Dec. 31, the same day he plans to permanently step down from the position.
William Ansbrow, the district’s chief financial officer; Ed Lopez, the district’s general counsel; and Patricia Malgieri, the district’s chief of staff, are the employees who will leave their RCSD postitions this month.
Vargas said he hopes the cabinet members’ departure will make the transition easier for incoming interim superintendent Daniel Lowengard.
“I recognize that any new superintendent needs flexibility to choose members of his or her top leadership team,” he wrote in a letter to central office. “With that in mind, I have decided that three members of my cabinet will leave the district at the same time I do.”
Vargas announced his plans to step down from the position in October, following months of ongoing controversy with the school board.
In addition, he said he has recently been meeting regularly with Lowengard, who will take over the position of superintendent January 1, 2016.
