wdkxWDKX-FM (103.9), a local and minority-owned radio station, has recently been named the number one radio station in Rochester, according to Nielsen data.

Previously, WBEE-FM’s (92.5), held the spot for four years, and each year prior to that, except for in 2012, when WDKX again nabbed first place.

According to Nielsen ratings, WDKX held about 9.3 percent of the local audience share last fall, while WBEE held only about 8.1 percent.

In addition, news talk WHAM-AM (1180) held 7. 3 percent.

Andrew Langston founded WDKX, which is currently operated by his son, Andre Langston, in 1974.

He passed away in 2010, and city officials have recently recognized his commitment to the community by naming a street after him, called Andrew Langston Way, in downtown Rochester.

According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the ranking only included information for stations that have subscribed to Nielsen, in the area.
