Wegmans Food Markets Inc. has recalled approximately 1,125 pounds of marinated chicken products which had not undergone federal inspection by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
The following are the products which have been recalled:
- Wegmans Italian Marinated Chicken Breast Cutlets, approximately 1 lb. pkg.,
UPC begins with 2-00866 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/24/2016.
- Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet, approximately 1 lb., UPC begins with 2-00949 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/15/2016.
- Wegmans Ready To Cook Garlic & Fennel Seasoned Whole Roasting Chicken, approximately 3 lbs., UPC begins with 2-03354 – ONLY product with a use-by date of 1/13/2016.
According to Wegmans officials, consumers who purchased the products should return them to the store for a full refund.
In addition, the store said there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products, but anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
“The only reason this product is being recalled is because it was produced without the benefit of USDA inspection, not because any issue or defect was found in the product,” Wegmans spokeswoman Jo Natale stated.
Natale said the misstep had been due to a change in the company’s production schedule, which resulted in inspection personnel not being present during the time the chicken was produced.
The recalled products have the establishment number “EST. or P-7567” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and the items have been shipped to distribution and retail locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
