Sevyn Streeter to Headline 2024 Juneteenth Festival
The Greater Rochester MLK Commission's Planning Committee held a press event to announce the much-anticipated Juneteenth celebrations scheduled for June 15. The festivities hold even more significance as Juneteenth is a federal holiday in the United States marking the abolition of slavery.
Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Mayor Malik Evans, and other community leaders have unveiled exciting updates for the event.
The main stage will feature a performance by renowned national recording artist Sevyn Streeter. Additionally, the City of Rochester will host a Juneteenth block party outside City Hall on Friday, June 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The press event highlighted "meaningful reasons" for joining the festival. Local artists contributed to the celebratory ambiance with an African drum performance and a rendition of the Black National Anthem, Lift Every Voice and Sing.
Opportunities are still available for sponsors and vendors to participate in the festival.
