Applications Now Open for Monroe County Food Insecurity Project
Local organizations working to combat food insecurity now have an opportunity to receive vital support as the Food Insecurity Project opens applications for its 2025 program.

The initiative, a collaboration between Cornell Cooperative Extension of Monroe County (CCE Monroe), Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, and the Monroe County Legislature, provides resources to organizations that serve residents in need. The program not only addresses immediate hunger but also works toward long-term food security by strengthening local food programs.
Eligible organizations may apply for assistance with equipment purchases (such as shelving, refrigerators, and freezers), facility repairs (such as ramps and stairs), and hygiene products (including toothbrushes and feminine hygiene items). While direct financial aid and employment stipends are not available, organizations can receive up to $10,000 in purchased goods and materials to support their operations.
“This initiative is about more than just providing food—it’s about equipping organizations with the tools they need to sustainably fight food insecurity in our community,” said Andrea Lista, Executive Director of CCE Monroe.
Unlike traditional grant programs, the Food Insecurity Project does not provide cash awards. Instead, approved items are purchased directly on behalf of recipient organizations.
Since its launch, the Food Insecurity Project has provided more than $40,000 in direct assistance to over 17 organizations, funding items such as food safety equipment, gardening supplies, outreach materials, and educational resources.
Interested organizations are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. For more information or assistance with the application process, contact Andrea Lista at monroefoodproject@cornell.edu
