On Tuesday, September 24, 2024, 28-year-old Bryasia Love was sentenced by Monroe County Court Judge Julie Hahn to 27 years in the New York State Department of Corrections followed by 5 years post release supervision. Bryasia Love previously pled guilty to Manslaughter in the 1st Degree and Assault in the 2nd Degree for the physical abuse that resulted in the death of her one-year-old son, A’Mias Love, and the assault of her two-year-old daughter.

On January 19, 2023, Rochester Police Officers were called to the Wilson Commencement Park Apartments in the City of Rochester for reports of an unresponsive child. Upon arrival, one-year-old A’Mias Love was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, where the child died from his injuries days later which included skull fractures, hemorrhages on the brain and a lacerated liver.  Later, A’Mias’ death was ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma by the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office.

After an investigation conducted by the Rochester Police Department and Monroe County Child Protective Services, it was determined that Bryasia Love was responsible for the physical abuse and waited to seek medical treatment for her son. She was also deemed responsible for the abuse against her two-year-old daughter.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck, Chief of the Special Victims Unit, and Special Assistant District Attorney Hillary Langdon, also of the Special Victims Unit.

“A’Mias Love was an innocent one-year-old baby whose life and potential was taken because of the physical abuse from Bryasia Love,” said Assistant District Attorney Sara VanStrydonck. “Bryasia Love admitted to causing the death of A’Mias and also assaulting her two-year-old daughter, showing a pattern of physical abuse against her young children. There is no reason, no excuse, and no explanation for the physical abuse of a child. All children deserve parents who provide safety and love and it is heart wrenching that A’Mias Love and his sister did not have this in their lives. Please, I urge you, if you suspect any child is being abused, regardless of the circumstance, please call law enforcement or Bivona Child Advocacy Center.”

“The death of A’Mias Love, a baby, was tragic, devastating and at the hands of his own mother, Bryasia Love,” said Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. “I want to thank the Rochester Police Department for leading this investigation, but also to the officers who responded to this dying child and did their best to transport him to safety. This death of a child can have a lasting impact on the entire community, especially the first responders, investigators, and attorneys who work on the aftermath. It is my sincerest hope that with Bryasia Love incarcerated, her surviving child can move forward with her life in a safe and loving home.”
