Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Malcolm X
Join the Friends of Malcolm X as they celebrate the life and legacy of Malcolm X, also known as El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz. Born on May 19th, Malcolm X was an African American leader who championed race pride and Black nationalism in the 1960s. This year marks the 3rd Annual festival in his honor, organized by the Friends of Malcolm.
Friends of Malcolm X invite you to participate in the upcoming events:
- Malcolm X Art Xplosion on Friday, May 17th, 2024, from 7-10 pm, organized by the Rochester Black Arts Council. The first 5 vendors will have the opportunity for FREE vending with 3 raffle items or $19 vending.
- FREE Vending at the Malcolm X Family Festival on Saturday, May 18th, from 12-4 pm.
- Panel Discussion led by Anthony Hall on the evening of May 18th, looking for 2 additional panelists.
- Malcolm X Marketplace at LA MARKETA on North Clinton Avenue on May 19th, from 1-5 pm. Vendor spots are available for $55 for Food Vendors, $30 for adults, and $15 for youth vendors in collaboration with the City of Rochester and Councilman Miguel Melendez.
The group is also seeking youth essayists aged 8-18 to share their thoughts on Malcolm X. Submit your essays by May 17th for a chance to win cash prizes up to $100.
