City R-Centers Move to Daytime Schedule Next Week to Offer Youth Healthy Activities During December School Recess

City R-Centers will adjust their schedules to daytime operating hours next week to provide city children and young people healthy activities during the December school recess.

“Kids love their breaks from school, but they can be stressful for parents who don’t have easy access to family members, friends of other care providers who can look after their children when school is out of session,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “City R-Centers offer excellent programs that keep our young people physically active, mentally engaged and emotionally supported while also providing parents welcome assurance that their children are in the presence of caring adults who are committed to their success. I encourage all parents of school students to take advantage of the incredible offerings at Rochester’s R-Centers during next week’s school recess.”

Most City R-Centers are open from 2 to 9 p.m. during the school year. They will be closed for the Christmas holiday, Monday, Dec. 25, and open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Tuesday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Dec. 29.

All city residents are eligible to participate in City recreation programs or utilize recreation facilities, most of which are free. To take advantage of these services, residents simply create an online account using the R-Central registration tool on the City website.
