City Residents Encouraged to Recycle Holiday Trees

Monday, Dec. 30, 2024 – City of Rochester residents can recycle their holiday trees now through the end of January by dropping them off at one of four locations throughout the city or by leaving them curbside on their designated refuse and recycling day.

The trees will be chipped, and the resulting mulch is returned to the public at no charge through the City’s Materials Give Back Program.

Trees can be brought to the following locations to be recycled:

  • Genesee Valley Park tennis courts at the Genesee Street Extension, opposite 1355 Genesee St.

  • Cobbs Hill Park, Lake Riley Lodge east parking lot

  • Norton Village R-Center parking lot opposite 341 Waring Rd.

  • Estes Street opposite Abbott's Ice Cream parking lot

Trees should not be bagged, and all ornaments, decorations, and lights should be removed.

Located at the City’s Solid Waste Collection Facility on Ferrano Street near Colfax Street, the Materials Give Back Program provides compost, wood chips, scrap lumber pieces, and chip stone free of charge for use in landscaping, buildable fill, or other improvement projects. The Give Back Center is open seasonally each year from the first Monday in April through the end of December. During that season, the Give Back Center is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week.
