Deputies Arrest Six Juveniles Following Night of Chaos Involving Multiple Stolen Vehicles in Pittsford

With the recent surge in stolen vehicles on Monroe County's east side, deputies are staying vigilant. On September 27, 2024, at 11:20 p.m., a Monroe County Sheriff's deputy spotted a red Kia SUV with damage indicative of being stolen, leaving a St. John Fisher University parking lot. The driver refused to stop and drove head on in the direction of the deputy before traveling through several lawns to evade arrest.

At approximately 11:49 p.m., deputies responded to Kurt Road in the Town of Pittsford for a stolen vehicle left in a driveway with the occupants reportedly running away. Upon arrival, deputies located the unoccupied Kia Sportage and confirmed it was stolen from Hunters Run. While searching the neighborhood for suspects, deputies located a license plate and property belonging to a 2020 Hyundai Elantra, which the owner confirmed to be stolen from Kendon Road.

At 12:13 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the report of a possible motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles racing up and down Concord Drive. Deputies quickly responded to the area and located the unoccupied stolen Elantra from Kendon Road.

Meanwhile, the chaos continued as a white Toyota Sienna was speeding down East Street and came dangerously close to hitting deputies. The driver of the Sienna continued driving erratically, failed to negotiate the turn and crashed into a tree at the intersection of East Street and East Jefferson Road. The tree ultimately prevented the juveniles from driving into the canal. Deputies detained five teenagers at the scene and located a sixth, with the assistance of our K9 Unit. The driver is a repeat offender. All six juveniles were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and released.

While investigating the above incidents, deputies found evidence the juveniles went through a car on Brickston Drive, stealing a purse and its contents. Deputies also discovered a Hyundai Elantra on Brickston Drive with damage to the steering column, a clear indication of an attempt to steal. Additionally, deputies located a Hyundai Sonata on Kurt Road that was stolen from East Rochester and notified the East Rochester Police Department. Over the course of a few hours, seven vehicles were either stolen or targeted for theft in Pittsford.

"Our deputies, investigators, and supervisors come together as a unified team to handle chaos, even if it means risking their own safety, and I could not be more proud of the work they did Friday night," said Sheriff Todd K. Baxter. "For crime victims, this is beyond inconvenience, as they have to repair or replace their stolen cars and property, costing time and money. I am renewing the community's call for lawmakers to pass clean law on what can be done with dangerous criminals and repeat offenders."

The six juveniles, between the ages of 14 and 16, are each charged with:

• Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle in the Third Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)

They were issued appearance tickets at the hospital.
