Empowering Communities through Cooperative Economics: Black Power Marketplace Returns


The community advocacy organization, Community Justice Initiative (CJI) is excited to announce the return of the Black Power Marketplace this Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 803 West Avenue, Rochester, NY.


Empowering Black Life:


CJI, an AFRIKAN Centered grassroots nation-building collective, is dedicated to empowering black life. CJI is committed to the principles of cooperative economics and daily practice of the Kwanzaa principle Ujamaa, this event aims to stabilize communities and empower black life through a unique and vibrant marketplace experience. CJI strives to create a platform that supports and uplifts black businesses.


The Black Power Marketplace welcomes vendors including Sweet Ambience, a locally owned black business that creates custom fragrances from organic oils. Sweet Ambience has hand blown Egyptian tear bottles to hold the fragrance. SHE TREATZ, by Sheba Lawrence will be offering unique and delicious desserts. Butter Me Up, who specializes in moisturizing body oils and whipped body butters. Also En Care Of, makers of hair, beard and scalp oils, as well as body and soap butters, and many black business vendors.


“Join us in supporting local businesses and celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit within our community,” said CJI member.


Vendor Opportunities:


The organization is still seeking additional adult vendors, who can secure vending spots for $35, while youth vendors can participate for $20. To register, interested vendors are encouraged to contact the organizers via email at communityjusticeinitiative@gmail.com. When registering, vendors should provide their name, contact information, a brief description of business, and pictures for promotional purposes prior to the event. Payments can be made conveniently through Cash App ($CJI520), Zelle, or PayPal.


Food Vendors:


The Marketplace is on the lookout for food vendors. For a fee of $50, food vendors can showcase their offerings and contribute to the diverse selection available at the marketplace. Contact CJI to secure a spot today.

As the Black Power Marketplace makes its return, the CJI invites everyone to participate, support, and engage in the spirit of cooperative economics.
