Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport Named one of Best Small Airports

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello announces the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) has been named to the USA TODAY 10 Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Airport. ROC was one of 10 small airports across the country to receive this distinction.

“It’s an honor to see our hometown airport being recognized in this national competition for its commitment to improving the passenger experience,” said Bello. Whether it’s the lighted canopy over the entrance, an expanded TSA checkpoint reducing wait times, Hearing Loops for passengers with hearing loss, or unique local partnerships such as the Strong Museum of Play and free high-speed Wi-Fi with Greenlight Networks, The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport is a first-class airport.”

An expert panel nominated 20 smaller airports in the United States for this award, with the top 10 receiving the 10Best Readers’ Choice Award. Each of these airports serves a smaller number of passengers, yet excel with commercial flight options, easy access, and unique amenities.

Other passenger amenities at ROC include: free video arcade, modern lounge furniture, mix of local and national food concessions, plug-in charging throughout the airport and an Aria Network membership to improve access for blind and low vision passengers.

“It’s really no surprise that ROC was one of only 10 airports to receive this award – my administration knows the value it brings to our community and that’s why we’re always looking for opportunities to bring more nonstop flights to Rochester passengers,” said Bello.
