New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) are reminding customers that applications for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) will be accepted starting November 1, 2024. The Companies recognize that customers can be challenged by winter heating bills and want to help them manage their energy costs.

“As we anticipate the colder months, we encourage our customers to apply for HEAP to help manage their energy costs,” said Christine Alexander, vice president of Customer Service for NYSEG and RG&E. “We recognize that our customers may need a little extra help during the winter heating season, and understanding the full range of assistance we offer can help.”

HEAP is a federal grant program that helps eligible households pay for energy costs and weatherization. Benefits are available through March 17, 2025, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first. Customers enrolled in HEAP are automatically enrolled in the Companies’ Energy Assistance Program (EAP). EAP provides customers with an automatic monthly bill credit.

NYSEG and RG&E have expanded the eligibility requirements to qualify for EAP. If customers receive any of the following assistance below, they can complete an application and submit proof of participation for enrollment.

• Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

• Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)

• Medicaid

• Federal Public Housing Assistance

• Veterans Pension and Survivor Benefits

• Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance

• Tribal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)

• Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations

• Tribal Lands Head Start

• Lifeline Telephone Service Program

• HEAP grant applied to a fuel vendor other than NYSEG or RG&E
