The Irondequoit Town Board has confirmed it completed an investigation into a complaint involving a town official but declined to publicly name the individual or share details of the allegations. The board held a special meeting Friday to discuss the matter and later released a brief statement saying any action regarding the complaint is on hold, citing personnel confidentiality.

“The town board continues to evaluate relevant legal issues raised by the investigation and intends to ensure due process and protect the interests of all parties involved, including the privacy and confidentiality of the complainants, as well as the safety of our town staff,” the statement read.

The decision to keep the official’s identity under wraps has sparked criticism from prominent local leaders who call for greater transparency. In a joint statement Monday, U.S. Rep. Joe Morelle (D-25), Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo, and Monroe County Legislator Dave Long expressed dismay over the town’s approach:

“As elected leaders who live in and represent Irondequoit, we are deeply troubled by the Town government’s handling of an investigation into a Town official. The lack of transparency surrounding this complaint, which may be serious, is inconsistent with our values and a disservice to the families we represent.”

They also urged members of the Irondequoit Democratic Committee to delay nominations and endorsements for Town Board and Town Supervisor positions at an upcoming designation meeting, arguing “an informed decision cannot be made at this time.”

Town Supervisor Andrae Evans declined to comment on the matter but said he was optimistic about the town’s progress. “I am very excited to talk about the work that we have done here in Irondequoit. How we have changed the environment, how much we are helping our citizens and that’s what’s most important,” he said.

In the meeting Friday town officials said the investigation is complete, but any further action or disciplinary measures remain uncertain. No timeline has been given for when, or if, the town will release additional information regarding the complaint or the official involved.
