Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans has issued a public apology following allegations of sexual harassment, while also disputing the claims and criticizing the Town Board’s response to the situation.

In a statement released Friday through his legal representation, Evans addressed the accusations but stopped short of admitting wrongdoing.

“I have, sadly, read the allegations made about me and I have two choices: Dispute the accuracy of what was said or apologize for what someone thinks I said,” Evans said. “I could spend a lot of time arguing about whether the investigation the Town Board initiated was fair, or politically motivated … Instead, I have decided to talk to the residents of Irondequoit and more, to the women who have made these allegations against me.”

He stated that he regretted any comments that may have been perceived as inappropriate or diminishing.

“I need to first apologize if my words were heard in either a diminishing or inappropriate way by anyone,” he said. “I would never intend to cause harm with anything I said, and I am simply so sorry if my words were heard in a way I did not mean.”

Evans also emphasized that he is a “happily married man” and expressed embarrassment over the situation’s impact on his family and colleagues.

His statement comes amid mounting pressure from the Town Board, which has reportedly called for his resignation. Evans’ attorneys, Bond, Schoeneck & King PLLC, said they are evaluating the Board’s demand and assessing the appropriate response.

“When I ran for public office, I was warned that at some point, someone would attack my reputation for political purposes, and I look forward to addressing this issue in more detail at the appropriate time,” Evans said, adding that he would refrain from further comment to protect the confidentiality of Town employees involved in the matter.

Evans has served as supervisor since 2023 and has consistently said he is seeking re-election later this year.
