Join Clean Sweep on Saturday, May 4
Join Clean Sweep on Saturday, May 4, at Innovative Field from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will gather to receive a free Clean Sweep T-shirt, enjoy a light breakfast, and get their assignments for the day. Mayor Malik Evans will welcome volunteers and pose for a group photo before they head out to project sites in city neighborhoods.
As a thank you for their hard work, volunteers will receive a free ticket to that day's Red Wings baseball game, along with a voucher for food and drink at the game. Free parking will be available for those wearing Clean Sweep T-shirts. Student volunteers can also earn Participation in Government certificates.
Since 2006, tens of thousands of volunteers have taken part in Clean Sweep, working with City crews to clean up winter debris and litter, plant flowers, prune trees, and beautify neighborhoods. The event also includes graffiti removal, cleaning City properties, sidewalk repairs, and pothole filling.
Volunteers are encouraged to sign up in advance by calling 311 or using the registration form, but walk-ins are welcome on the day of the event. Please wear appropriate clothing, including hard-soled shoes and long pants. Gloves and tools will be provided, but feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
During Clean Sweep, volunteers can park for free at the Oak Street lot and will be transported to and from project sites. It's a great opportunity to reconnect with friends, make new connections, and participate in community action. Whether you come alone or with a group, Clean Sweep is a chance to give back and make a difference in the city.
Residents can also take advantage of Clean Sweep by placing yard debris at the curb for City crews to collect. It's a day of teamwork, community spirit, and making Rochester a cleaner, more beautiful place to live.
