Kelvin Hunt Sentenced to 25 Years for the Kidnapping of a 14-year-old
Rochester, NY - On Monday, January 27, 2025, 48-year-old Kelvin Hunt was sentenced by New York State Supreme Court Justice Healy to 25 years in the New York State Department of Corrections plus 5 years of post-release supervision. Kelvin Hunt previously pled guilty to Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree, for the abduction of a child.
On February 1, 2024, Kelvin Hunt, a registered sex offender, entered a home and forcibly kidnapped a 14-year-old girl. Kelvin Hunt specifically targeted this house and this victim. He took her to another location at gunpoint, against her will.
The 14-year-old was released by the kidnapper and called the police. Rochester Police Officers, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the United States Marshals Service searched the community for Kelvin Hunt, who led police on two separate vehicular pursuits. He was located at the Gates Hotel on February 5, 2024, and arrested for the kidnapping of this teenage victim.
This case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Janna Jehlen, of the Special Victims Unit.
“Kelvin Hunt targeted a 14-year-old child and planned to kidnap her,” said Assistant District Attorney Janna Jehlen. “I am so proud of this young survivor who identified her assailant to police after experiencing unspeakable trauma. I want to thank the Rochester Police Department, the FBI, and the United States Marshals for not resting until this sex offender was apprehended and behind bars. I truly hope that today’s sentence brings this young survivor one step closer toward healing.”
“Kelvin Hunt is a violent sex offender who should not be permitted to reside within our community,” said Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley. “I would like to commend the strength of this 14-year-old for not only reporting her assault and kidnapping, but also for protecting any future victims from a similar fate. I hope that Kelvin Hunt spends every day for the remainder of his life contemplating his despicable actions and the trauma that he caused this child and her family.”
