Local Law Enforcement Warns Residents of Rental Scam Alert
The Rochester Police Department (RPD) would like to alert the public regarding an ongoing scam pertaining to listings on Craigslist for apartments for rent.
RPD says there are individuals posting apartments available for rent for properties in which they do not own, nor do they have any connection to.
The scammers are claiming to be out of town and offer to overnight the apartment keys upon receiving money deposited into an account, or
money orders sent.
They are providing photo identification for who they claim to be and provide written leases to the prospective renters via email.
Be vigilante and do not fall victim to these scams. We recommend you do not rent an apartment from anyone who claims to own/manage the apartment who is not willing to meet you at the location.
