Mayor Evans Invites Community to Juneteenth Events




Mayor Malik D. Evans will kick off the City of Rochester’s 2024 Juneteenth celebrations at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, June 14, 2024 on the steps of City Hall, 30 Church St. Representatives from the community, Monroe County, and Regional Transit Service (RTS) will join the Mayor to raise the Juneteenth Flag at City Hall.


Immediately after the flag raising ceremony, the City of Rochester’s annual Juneteenth Block Party will begin. Planned by the City’s Black Heritage Committee, festivities will take place along Church Street between State and Fitzhugh Streets, which will be closed to traffic during the event, and will include food trucks, music and an RTS bus wrapped in the colors of the Juneteenth Flag. All are welcome.


The following day, the Mayor will attend and present a City of Rochester/Monroe County proclamation during the 2024 Rochester Juneteenth Festival at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park, 353 Court St. That free event, which runs from 12 noon to 8 pm. features a parade at 10 a.m., and Elders Circle at 11 a.m., and free entry all day to the Strong National Museum of Play. Attendees can also enjoy local performers, vendors and food.


On Wednesday, June 19—Juneteenth Day—the International Plaza, 858 N. Clinton Ave. will host musical performances, food and vendors from 1 to 5 p.m.
