Mayor Evans Marks Completion of Norton Village Park Playground Renovations.
Mayor Malik D. Evans marked the completion of a nearly year-long renovation at Norton Village Park playground with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.
“As a father, I will tell you that you can’t underestimate the value of a good playground; and as the Mayor, I will tell you the same thing,” Evans said. “Playgrounds are as much a part of the city’s infrastructure as roads and bridges because they create safe and inviting spaces where children can have fun and learn to play well with others. Investing in the healthy development of our children moves us closer to creating a safe, equitable and prosperous Rochester by inspiring hope and delivering opportunity for everyone.”
The renovation at Norton Village Park playground introduced new pre-teen and toddler playsets, swings, rubberized surfaces, and curbing. To improve visibility and access to nearby picnic areas, the playground was relocated closer to the Norton Village Lodge. The project also added a pathway system, shade trees, and removed outdated basketball and tennis courts.
The $500,000 project was funded by the city’s annual allotment from the U.S. Community Development Block Grant program and carried out by Titan Construction and RAVI Engineering.
